Update on Streamlined Asylum Process and Asylum Legacy Cases

On 23 February 2023, the Home Office introduced a new ‘streamlined asylum processing’ policy, where some people seeking asylum will have to complete a questionnaire instead of having an interview.

This policy applies to adults from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Libya, Syria and Yemen who claimed asylum on or before 7 March 2023, or from Sudan who claimed asylum on or after 28 June 2022, and who have not had an asylum substantive interview.

Our Bermondsey Branch is now permanently closed. We still have two branches, Walworth and Peckham, and both are open to regular drop-in services 10am-2pm Monday to Friday.

Asylum Claim Questionnaire Assistance

If you are a national of Afghanistan, Eritrea, Libya, Syria or Yemen who submitted a claim for asylum before 28 June 2022 and currently live in Southwark, you may be contacted by the Home Office asking you to complete an Asylum Claim Questionnaire.

It is very important that you complete this form and return it back to the Home Office as soon as possible. Please be aware that it may be possible to apply to the Home Office for an extension on the deadline. You should contact your legal representative if you have one.

Cost of Living Crisis Support Roadshow – Thursday 19th January

Our next Cost of Living Support Roadshow is at 10am to 1pm on Thursday 19th January at Bells Gardens Community Centre, 19 Buller Close, Peckham SE15 6UJ.

There will be advisers to help at the event from a range of organisations, including Citizens Advice Southwark, Pecan, Spring Community Hub, Latin American Women’s Rights Service, Southwark Works, the DWP and also different teams from the council (including their Local Support Team).
