This week is Carers Week
Learn about the ways you can support unpaid carers:
- This week is Carers Week, so take some time to read a report from Carers UK on juggling work and unpaid care.
- As part of our membership with the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (ENEI) you have access to their guide on employing carers
We have also produced new guidance to help you support volunteers who are carers, raise awareness of caring, and promote volunteering opportunities to carers.
Scams happen to anyone. The 2019 Scam awareness campaign is coming up on the 10 June. We’re raising awareness and empowering people to take action against scam crimes. We’ll be helping people stay #scamaware now and all year around.

Our next Advice & Support Roadshow will be taking place between 10am and 2pm on Monday 20th May 2019 at The Green, Nunhead Community Centre, 5 Nunhead Green, Nunhead, London SE15 3QQ.
This event is for anyone who is having problems with benefits (including Universal Credit) or debt, or help with budgeting or with getting online. In addition there will be staff there from the DWP, from the Council (including the Council Tax team, Local Support and Housing Allocations), as well as from voluntary sector organisations providing employment support and advice.
Please come along and if you are organisation you can refer anyone who needs advice and support with any of the above.
Today Citizens Advice Southwark has launched a new service called Help to Claim for those who need help to apply for Universal Credit in Southwark.
People will now be able to get support from us, from submitting their Universal Credit application to getting their first full payment.
Help will be tailored to the individual and will be available face-to-face, over the phone on 0800 144 8 444 and online through our Help to Claim enquiry form
This may include assistance with the online application form or help with providing evidence like childcare costs and medical certificates.
Local organisations who work with people who need help applying for Universal Credit can also signpost into the service here
For more information please visit our Help to Claim page.
Following a national campaign to try and halt the roll-out of Universal Credit, Citizens Advice Southwark was invited to present evidence in support of our campaign to a parliamentary committee. We were represented at the meeting by our Advice Services Manager, Nicola Smith, who answered questions from the committee members and detailed our clients’ experiences.
See the Parliament TV video from the hearing here.
